Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Levan Davitashvili met with the heads of wine companies in Telavi, vintage coordinating HQ and got information about their involvement in vintage process.

According to the minister, vintage 2019 is in active phase, however, due to heavy rains in September, a significant amount of harvest is not stored yet.

“The meeting demonstrated, that with more communication and coordination, we will be able to overcome the challenges that unfortunately were created by the weather. We’ve met with winemakers to get the companies involved more actively in the vintage process. The private sector should take responsibility to make the vintage process as organized and successful as in recent years”, Levan Davitashvili said.

For their part, representatives of wine companies have noted that with more communication with the vintage coordinating staff, the grape processing will be further intensified and the winemakers will have no issues with storing the harvest.

The meeting was attended by the State Attorney in Kakheti region Irakli Kadagishvili, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili and Head of Vintage Coordination HQ Levan Mekhuzla.

About 80 thousand tons of grapes are industrially processed in Kakheti. 200-250 thousand tons of grapes are expected to be harvested in the region this year. About 270 wine companies are registered at the vintage coordinating HQ, about 140 of which are already involved in the vintage.

Vintage Coordination HQ operates 24 hours a day for active communication between state agencies, entrepreneurs and growers. Interested parties can obtain vintage information at the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture hotline - 1501.
