Georgia was invited to the Congress of French Oenologists as a guest of honour
The 56th National Congress of Oenologists was held in France, Loire kloof, Amboise. Georgia was invited as the first guest of honour.
The congress was attended by the ambassador of Georgia in France, Ekaterine Siradze-Delone, who harangued the members of the event. The head of National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili made a presentation about Georgian wine culture and history. The main concept of the presentation was the ancient tradition of Georgian winemaking, variety of Georgian species, Georgian methods of winemaking, and Georgian Qvevri winemaking traditional methods, which was given the status of Monument of Immaterial Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2013.
“Our country received the invitation to this congress as Georgia and Georgian wine is spoken about more and more intensively in France . This is the first occasion, when foreign country takes part in the work of Congress of French Oenologists, that gives the best opportunity to raise Georgian wine publicity in France” – mentioned Giorgi Samanishvili.
In the framework of the Congress, Georgian wine degustation was held and 4 Georgian winemaking companies were introduced with different types of wines: “Tsolikouri 2013”(Winery Khareba); “Saperavi Reserve 20015” (Kakhuri); “Rkatsiteli 2014”(Orgo); “Kisi 2011”(Winiveria). Totally, 400 oenologists participated France and the main theme was “Wine and Water”.
In the framework of the congress, “Palmes Vinalies National 2016” was held and Georgian delegation members were in the membership of the judges.
It’s remarkable, that next year, Georgian wine is invited to the Bordeaux Museum of Wine Civilizations, large-scale fair will be initiated to Georgian viticulture and winemaking. Also, Georgia will be the first invited country and will open the cycle of fairs dedicated to viticulture and winemaking held in Bordeaux Center of Wine Civilization
