New Wine Festival
Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, Otar Danelia opened “New Wine Festival” in the park of Mtatsminda. As Otar Danelia states, such kind of events stimulate development of family wineries and general encouragement of winery field. He also mentioned, that the number of members of the festival has impressionably increased, which is the most important for progress of the field.
The minister expresses his wish to make tradition of giving a bottle of wine on holidays and parties and this way, contribute in development of winery field. Wine degustation was held in the framework of the festival, which was attended by approximately 80 wine companies, also small family and medium maranis, native and foreign guests – professional oenologists, sommeliers, wine journalists, wine-bloggers and writers. The guests of the festival also had opportunity to learn different technologies of winemaking. Unique Qvevri wines France, Italy, Slovakia, Germany and Austria were introduced on the festival. Degustation members tasted Thierry Puzelat, Laurent Bannwarth, Paolo Vidopivec, Vino di Ana and Tomofumi Fujimaru Qvevri wines.
Also, research and development center of ministry of Agriculture of Georgia was represented on the festival, which introduced wines made of rare vine types on the Scientific Research Center-Jigaura experimental bases. With special approval were met the following types of wine: “Sirgula”, “Kakhuri Mtsivani”, “Meskhuri Mtsvane”, “Tetri Kapistoni”, “Grubela”, “Simonaseuli”, “Shavi Chinuri”, “Kurdza” and “Cheqobali”.
The festival is organized by “Wine Club” and aims Georgian wine popularization, increase of wine education level in Georgia and growth of consumer culture. The festival serves Georgian wine publicity growth on national and international market, also, wine tourism development in Georgia. “New Wine Festival” is supported by Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, National Wine Agency and Mayor’s Office.
