Georgian wine is introduced in Japan
In the capital of Japan, Tokyo, 41st international fair off food and beverage, “FOODEX JAPAN 2016” is in progress, in which, with National Wine Agency and Embassy of Georgia in Japan support, 8 following Georgian winemaking companies are introduced : “Kakhuri”, “Shumi”, “Kakhetian Wine Cellar”, “Qimerioni”, “Telavi Wine Cellar”, “Winery Khareba”, “Vaziani Company” and “Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking” .
The presentation of the fair was attended by Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia in Japan, Levan Tsintsadze and Head of National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili.
“Georgian wine export in Japan has great potential. Japan represents rising export market for Georgian wine as well as the whole east-Asian region. “FOODEX JAPAN” is the most important agricultural product fair in Japan, including wine segment. With National Wine Agency support, Georgian wine companies will be introduced on one more Japanese large-scale fair, „Wine & Gourmet Show“, which will be held in April in Tokyo”- stated the head of the Agency.
As Giorgi Samanishvili mentioned, interest the guests of the fair towards Georgian wine is great.
On the fair opening day, Georgian Wine companies received The 3rd “Sakura” Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2016. According to information spread in February of the current year, 9 Georgian wines received one double-gold, 4 gold and 4 silver medals. The winner wines are: double gold – “Saperavi Reserve . 2005” , “Kakhuri” company; gold – “Saperavi. 2008”, “Kakhuri” company; gold – “Saperavi. Family Reserve. 2013”, “Lukasi” company; gold – “Marani. Kondol’s Vines. Three. 2013”; “Telavi Wine Cellar” company; gold – “Marani. Reserve.2007” , “Telavi Wine Cellar” company; silver – “Mukuzani Iberian . 2013”; “Shumi” company; silver – “Napareuli. 2013”, “Shumi” company; “Satrapezo Saperavi.2012”, “Telavi Wine Cellar” company; silver – “Qvevri Wine Saperavi.2011”, “Kindzmarauli” corporation.
The manager of “Sakura” awards, high class sommelier of Japan, Mrs. Iumi Tanabe mentioned, that Georgian wine rised desire of acquaintance with Georgia and she plans to visit Georgia.
Head of department of marketing and public relations of National Wine Agency, Irakli Cholobargia held Georgian wine presentation “Georgia – 8 thousand vintages” in the framework of the fair. The presentation was attended by sommeliers, journalists, marketers, importing companies and representatives of alcohol beverage shops and hotels.
“FOODEX JAPAN” is held since 1976 and is considered, as one of the large-scale fairs in Asia. This year, over 80 countries are introduced on the fair and the fair is attended by tens of thousands of wine importers, professionals and amateurs.
In 2015, 138 290 bottles of wine were exported Georgia to Japan, which is 5% higher, than the data of 2014.
