2017 will be announced as the year of Georgia in the French city of Bordeaux
The Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture headed by Otar Danelia paid a working visit to France. Under the frame of his visit Otar Danelia, Minister of Agriculture and the Chairman of French wine culture and civilization, Sylvie Cazes, signed a Cooperation of Agreement .
According to the Agreement, 2017 year will be announced as the year of Georgia in the French city of Bordeaux, emphasizing the fact, that Georgia is the country of old traditions and wine culture. Georgia will take the first place in the list of honored guests and therefore, will be an organizer of a scale exhibition ‘’ Vineyard- Georgia’’ dedicated to viticulture and wine making in July and August 2017.
‘’ The first exhibition to hold in the center of civilization and culture in France will be dedicated to Georgia . Georgia is known as a cradle of wine. It will be an important and at the same time historical event. The exhibition fair will be accompanied by an extensive professional program, including tastings, conferences, seminars and other cultural events, which will allow French people to learn more about Georgian wine and about your magnificent country - Georgia \" - said Sylvie Cazes.
The presentation of Georgian wine culture and history will be conducted in the center of civilization and culture of France in 2017 and will lasted for seven weeks to further boost Georgia’s popularity and presence in the global market. It should be noted, that above mentioned exhibition includes wine tasting, conferences, films and other cultural events.
The center of civilization and culture will organize and finance the exhibition event together with Georgian side. The Bordeaux Center for Wine and Civilization will open on May 31st, 2016. Building the large-scale complex was initiated by the Bordeaux City Mayor, Alain Juppe. The Center, which is 14 thousand square meters, will feature modern architecture and technology and will present the latest achievements in the field. In recognition of the importance of the event, the Georgian government has set up a special commission, composed of representatives of various government agencies and headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Otar Danelia. The Commission should ensure the event is conducted successfully and at a high level.
The Commission has already held a meeting to discuss preparation of information materials and literature for the Center and the ion of wines to present at the exhibition. Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, Advisor to the Director of the National Museum of Merab Mikeladze, the Honorary Consul of the Embassy of France in Bordeaux Alen Gambashidze and representatives of the Embassy of Georgia in France attended the signing ceremony for Cooperation Agreement between the two sides.
Georgian Delegation visited Chateau Grand Mann Vineyards in village Saint Emilion during their visit to France and were familiarized with top class luxury wine production line. It should be noted, that Saint-Emilion was included in the list of World Heritage sites for Humanity, as a cultural landscape and is regarded as one of the main centers in Bordeaux region.
