Wine Tour of Journalists in Georgia
A group of wine journalists (Italy, Australia, USA, Portugal, China) visited Georgia for a week wine media-tour with wine magister, Debra Meiburg leadership.
Within the framework of the tour organized by National Wine Agency, media representatives visited various wine companies in Qartli and Kakheti, they learnt Georgian wine culture, history, Georgian cousin and folklore, tasted Georgian wines.
The head of National Wine Agency met the members of the media-tour during one of their visits in a wine company in Kakheti.
“Debra Meiburg, one of the famous wine magister has visited Georgia, who works on China especially. He has brought a group over here him, the members of which write about wine and wine culture. They travel in Kakheti and Qartli, they visit wine cellars, vineyards, attend vintage and the process of pressing out grapes and they will write all about this later” - mentioned Giorgi Samanishvili.
As Debra Meiburg estimated, Georgia is outstanding for the huge variety of native indigenous wines.
“The objective of this trip is to show case Georgian wine to some of the most important opinion leaders in greater China market, so that market includes China, Macao and Hong-kong, so we\'ve gathered together a group of journalists to really discover Georgian wine, and the interesting thing about this group is some of the people are wine specialists, but we also wanted to reach out to journalists, who have millions of fans, but don\'t know wine so well, so we wanted to introduce Georgian wine to people that are knew to wine. Georgia has a huge advantage, because it has unique varieties of native indigenous to Georgia. That is an advantage, but it\'s also a challenge, because we have to introduce this varieties and this unusual words and pronunciations to a market and that\'s what makes the work very exiting, because it\'s all about discovery of new varieties and new ways of thinking about wine, tannic white wine or sweet red wine, this is a very new concept internationally and especially for Asia. Because of the history, I think there is a great affection for Georgia by many people in China and good business relationships and good partnerships, so they are open-minded and ready to support Georgia. The big work we have to do is to establish Georgia in the market as a fine-quality wine” - noted Debra Meiburg.
