Georgian Wine Has Won the Diamond Award in Japan

In Japan, the winner of the "Sakura" competition highest award - "Diamond Trophy" became "Vaziani Winery" (Line "Makashvili Wine Cellar") "Kisi 2017". The above-mentioned wine became the owner of "Double Gold" award in the "Sakura" competition in February of the current year, and according to the competition rules, was presented to the "Foodex Japan 2019" Award for the highest award - Diamond Trophy.
The award of "Sakura" Competition was given to the director of "Vaziani Winery" Natia Metreveli at "Foodex Japan 2019" in Tokyo today.
24 awards, including 2 Double Gold, 15 Gold and 7 Silver Medals were given to various Georgian wines at the International Competition "Sakura”.
International Competition "Sakura" (The 6th "Sakura" Japan Women's Wine Awards 2019) is a large-scale event held this year for the sixth time. More than four thousand different wines from 33 countries were represented at the competition. The jury is staffed by women in wine industry - sommeliers, wine writers and journalists.
Victory in such prestigious competitions will promote the development of a specific company as well as Georgian wines in general in the Japanese wine market. Japan is a strategic market for Georgian wine, where the National Wine Agency has been implementing marketing activities since 2014. Last year, 212 thousand bottles of wine were exported to Japan, which is 37% higher than the data of 2017.
To promote the popularity and awareness of Georgian wine in Japan, from March 10 to May 7, 2019, a large project "Georgia – Cradle of Wine" will be held.
