In January, Georgian Wine Exports Increased by 22%
According to LEPL National Wine Agency, in January 2019, up to 6,25 mil. bottles (0,75l) of wine have been exported to 24 countries worldwide, that is 22% higher than the similar data of 2018. Exported wine income amounted to 15,2 mil. USD, that is 33% higher than the data of the previous year.
"The trend of export growth has been maintained at the beginning of the year. 2018 ended with record numbers when Georgia exported 86,2 million bottles of wine, the highest number of the last 30 years. According to the data of January, exports have increased in different markets. It is noteworthy that on the background of the increased amount of exported wine by 22%, the price of the exported wine has grown by 22%. This indicates that the export price of Georgian wine is progressive at international markets "- stated Levan Mekhuzala, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
Georgian wine exports have increased in Georgian wine strategic markets: Poland - 52% (268724), China - 12% (281229), UK - 110% (7800) and USA 1639% (62609); Also on European markets: Germany - 235% (63210), Sweden - 100% (9000), Bulgaria - 6% (4500). Also, on traditional and Asian markets: Mongolia - 100% (66012), Russia - 30% (4602218), Azerbaijan - 100% (5790), Belorussia 100% (43272) and etc.
The first five of the exporter countries are the following: Russia (4602218), Ukraine (553164), China (281229), Poland (268724) and Kazakhstan (156120). Different amount of wine was exported by 96 wine companies.
In addition, 2,2 mil. bottles (0,5 liters) of brandy have been exported to 9 countries worldwide, that is 109% higher than the similar data of the last year.
4,4 thousand bottles (0.5 l) of “Chacha” have been exported to 5 countries worldwide, growth amounted to 43%. Totally, 1 mil. USD worth of Chacha has been exported, which is 2% higher than the similar data of the last year.
Totally, wine, bandy, “Chacha”, brandy alcohol and brandy in pour income amounted to 23 mil. USD – growth in comparison with the similar data of the previous year amounted to 23%.
