International Wine and Spirits Competition “Georgia – Homeland of Wine”

The International Competition of Wine and Spirits -  "Georgia – Homeland of Wine" was opened in Tbilisi. Competition is held for the first time in Tbilisi and it is managed by the "International Organization of Vine and Wine" (OIV).
The official ceremony was attended by Jean-Marie Aurand, President of the International Organization for Vine and Wine, David Songulashvili, parliament member, Deputy Chairman of the National Wine Agency Davit Tkemaladze and President of Georgian Sommelier Organization, Murman Quridze. 
The main goal of the event is to popularize Georgian wine and show its high potential to help Georgian winemakers in establishing international markets.
EAWSC (EURASIA WINE & SPIRITS COMPETITION) is a project that organizers plan to integrate the tasting-competition of all the Eurasian continent countries.
Competition jury comprises famous wine experts. Jean-Marie Aurand (France) is represented by OIV's official observer. Among the local experts are Lado Uzunashvili, Ana Godabrelidze, David Abzianidze, Shalva Khetsuriani and others. (Full list of juries: http://eawsc.com/eawsc-georgia#jury). Participation of high level specialists in this event indicates that Georgia is not only a wine homeland but also a place for holding high-level wine forums.
The organizer of the event is "Union of Georgian Oenologists". The competition is conducted by the National Wine Agency, Association "Georgian Wine" and other local companies. The competition is operated by Moldovan company PPE SRL.
The competition is attended by 12 producers (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Moldova, Slovakia, Russia, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Belarus).
The winning wines and spirits will be named on November 9 in Kakheti, "Chateau Zegaani". The popular American magazine "Wine Spectator" plans to publish articles about the top wines.

Georgian Wine
