Georgia on “Expovina” Exhibition
International wine exhibition Expovina is taking place in the city of Zurich, Switzerland from November 1-15 this year and Georgia is participating for the first time as a special guest. Expovina is unique for it’s format and location. In particular, the exhibition is held annually in autumn on the bouts in the lake close to Zurich. Traditionally, more than 4 thousand wine producers and 65 thousand wine importers attend the exhibition.
The head of the National Wine Agency, Levan Mukhuzla, attended the official opening ceremony of the exhibition. According to him, the participation of Georgia on the exhibition as an honorable guest clearly underlines the growth of the awareness about Georgian wine and that the world wants to know more about it.
“The international exhibition Expovina-2018 is held for the 65th time in Zurich, Switzerland. It is worth of noting that, Georgia is participating as an honorable guest for the first time throughout the history if this exhibition. Special pavilion is dedicated to the Georgian wine. Our winemakers are representing different types of premium wines such as Qvevri wine, which is very important for our country regarding the popularization of our wine.” – noted Levan Mukhuzla.
The Head of the Wine National Agency talked about the history and culture of Georgian wine prior to the official beginning of the opening ceremony.
Introduction of Georgian wine at the exhibition was supported by Georgian Swiss Business Association, National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia “Sakpatenti”, Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, LEPL National Wine Agency, Georgian National Tourism Association and the program of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, “Enterprise Georgia”.
With the support of the National Wine Agency up to 20 Georgian winemaker companies are participating in this exhibition.
In 10 months of the ongoing year up to 20 thousand bottles of wine has been exported from Georgia to Switzerland, that is 300% higher than the similar data of the last year.
