Georgia's best sommelier
Georgian wine days "Gvinobistve 2018" was finished with the competition of sommeliers. The competition "Georgia's best sommelier" was organised by Georgian Sommelier Association and with the support of the National Wine Agency. This competition was held for the first time and Tamaz Tamazashvili revealed himself as a winner.
10 sommeliers were involved in this competition. According to international standards all of them are officially tilted as sommeliers or assistant sommeliers by the Georgian Sommelier Association. The jury of this competition was completed by Georgian and international experts and the head of the jury was the President of the Georgian Sommelier Association Shalva Khetsuriani.
Out of 10 participant 3 sommeliers has taken part into the final competition. The winner of this competition will participate in to the world wide competition named "World's Best Sommelier" in Belgium in March 2019.
According to Levan Mukhuzla, the head of the the National Wine Agency and the member of the jury, the profession of sommeliers plays crucial role in popularization of the wine culture.
"This event celebrates the end of the Georgian Wine Days "Gvinobistve 2019". The profession of sommelier is new in Georgia. Sommelier offers wine to the customer and exactly that proffesion is the bridge between the winemakers and wine consumers. They are not only representing wine to the customers, but also spreading the culture of wine and therefore they need to posses detailed information about the wine they represent. It is important in Georgia the proper Wine Culture to be implemented and sommeliers are playing a crucial role in it" - noted Levan Mukhuzla.
Within the "Gvinobistve 2018" wine festivals were held in Tbilisi, Telavi, Marneuli and Gurjaani from 5 to 21 October. "Georgian Wine Days" is celebrated since 2014.
