Levan Davitashvili summed up the vintage of the 2018 briefing for media representatives
The Minister introduced the results of the measures implemented by the government in order to promote the development of the vineyard and wine industry during the last six years to the journalists.
The progress in the field is obvious - new vineyards are cultivated, new factories are created and old ones are extended, the agro-credit and agro-insurance system is functioning, the wine export amount has increased, export markets are diversified. With the support of the state, viticulture and winemaking industry is strengthened and it does not require support by subsidy any longer.
"This year we have received a record amount of harvest in Georgia; A record number of grapes - more than 230 thousand tons have been processed. The population received over 300 million GEL. Export data of Georgian wine is also a record. By the end of 2018, about 100 million bottles of wine are expected to be exported. This is the end of a certain stage in the development of Georgian wine sector. For 2019, we have new goals for the next 5 years and all preconditions have already been created for achieving these new goals, "said Levan Davitashvili.
In 2013-2018, cultivators have earned 950 million GEL in Kakheti and Racha-Lechkhumi region. Positive indicators in the field gave rise to the possibility that no subsidy would be given to the grapes during the vintage period of 2018. The price of grape was founded on the basis of market economy. In 2018, 230 thousand tons of grapes have been processed the record number of grapes in the history of independent Georgia. Farmers' income exceeded 300 million GEL (52 thousand tons were recycled in 2012). More than 280 private companies were involved in various stages of grape harvesting and processing of viticulture, which led to the uninterrupted process of grapes delivery.
22 thousand viticulturists have dekivered the grapes, which is also a record indicator, which means that the number of vineyards has increased in the country to grow new cultivators and that in recent years, the right policies and reforms have been implemented by the state in viticulture and winemaking.
