Grape damaged from hail has been fully processed
Processing of grapes damaged from hail has been completed in Kakheti. According to Andro Aslanishvili, Head of Vintage Coordination HQ, totally 1,1 thousand tons of hail-damaged grapes have been processed.
"As a result of the disaster on August 18, 500 hectares of vineyards of several villages were damaged in Akhmeta and Telavi municipalities. Due to the current situation, in the city of Telavi, the vintage 2018 coordination HQ made an operative planned to take care of the farmers whoes harvest was damaged and had no vineyards insured. The population was given the possibility of delivering hail-damaged grape on the second day of the disaster and the whole process was going on without delay, "said Andro Aslanishvili, Head of Vintage Coordination HQ.
Vintage 2018 Coordination HQ officially opened on August 20 and is fully ready to start vintage process. At this time there are 41 companies registered in the HQ that will be involved in grape processing. During the vintage, HQ will work 24 hours a day.
The grape picking will start in Dedoplistskaro municipality and gradually will cover the entire Kakheti region.
Due to the results of the state policy implemented in Georgian winemaking and wine industry in the last years, the vintage 2018 will be organized and successful. In particular, the export volume of wine has been increased, export markets are diversified, new factories are built and old ones are expanded reequipped; Developed system of agro-credit and agro-insurance is available. With the support of the state, viticulture and winemaking industry is strengthened and it does not necessarily require subsidy support.
