The Issue of Including Georgian Wine in The List of OIV Special Wines Moved to The Next Stage
In issue of including wine made by Georgian traditional methods in the list of special wines of The International Organization for Vine and Wine (OIV) has moved to the next stage of discussion.
Presentation of wine made by Georgian traditional methods was led by Giorgi Samanashvili, Chairman of the National Wine Agency at OIV Office, Paris.
After discussing in the OIV Working Group, this issue was supported and moved to the next stage of the discussion. In accordance with the procedures, in autumn of the current year, at the OIV General Assembly, the Session of the Executive Committee will discuss the issue.
During his visit to France, Giorgi Samanishvili also held meetings with the candidates of OIV Director General, who introduced the Georgian Action Plan to the Georgian delegation.
In 2017, The International Organization for Vine and Wine (OIV) has adopted a proposal for an accelerated review of the Georgian side to consider, that wine made by Georgian traditional methods, or fermentation with “Chacha” (Amber wine) will be included in the list of OIV special wines.
According to his estimation, currently, OIV special wine list includes 7 wines: Sparkling wines, Carbonated wines, Fortified wines, Liqueur wines, Sweet wines with residual sugar derived from grapes, “Icewine”, Flor or film wines.
After completion of due procedures, Georgian Amber wines will be the 8th one in the OIV list.
This decision will be another important event to promote popularization and awareness of Georgian traditional wines all over the world.
