The Third National Wine Competition Ceremonial

Within the framework of Georgian Wine Week, with Georgian Sommelier Association organization and National Wine Agency of Ministry of Agriculture support, the third National Wine Competition rewarding ceremonial was held.  

The ceremonial was attended by the minister of Agriculture of Georgia,  Levan Davitashvili, the chairmen of Tbilisi City Assembly, Giorgi Alibegashvili, the head of National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili, the director of Research and Development Center of Agriculture, Levan Ujmajuridze and representatives of winemaking companies, wine experts, sommeliers and media.

The minister of Agriculture of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili harangued the attenders of the ceremony and stated, that this year, the Wine Week was happened successfully and within the framework of the week, numerous important activities were organized.

“It\'s a pleasure, that Georgian Wine Week ended with National Wine Competition rewarding ceremonial. I want to thank the president of  Sommelier Association, who was the initiator of establishing this competition 3 years ago and the competition became traditional. The state will always support such important activities, which help the development of viticulture and winemaking, increase of popularity and publicity of Georgian wine. It\'s important, that interest towards Georgian wine and wine culture increases day by day” - stated Levan Davitashvili.

At the ceremony, 15  winning companies were awarded by special diplomas, by the minister of Agriculture, Levan Davitashvili, the head of National Wine Agency, Giorgi Samanishvili, and the judges of the competition. Georgian Sommelier Association with the support of National Wine Agency of Ministry of Agriculture organizes “Georgian Wine National Competition” the third year. The judges of the competition are the professional  oenologists, sommeliers and wine professionals. The membership of the judges this year was the following: Irma Chanturia, Nino Maisuradze, Tamta Tchavtchanidze, Tinatin Djadjanidze, Ekaterine Bukhradze, Levan Mekhuzla, Franchesco Castel, Magda Surguladze, Davit Matchavariani, Giorgi Barisashvili, Mariam Khomasuridze, Irakli Naneishvili, Marika Miqiashvili, Giorgi Darsimelia, Darejan Darashvili, Vano Shiukashvili, Giorgi Tevzadze, Bondo Kalandadze, Vasil Sikharulidze, Zurab Sturua, John Wuderman, Giorgi Abramishvili, Murman Koridze, Manana Akhvlediani, Kler Ugenberger.

 The winners of the third National Wine Competition are:

 

1. The best sparkling wine - “Badagoni” company

2. The best white dry  - “Kakhetian Wine Cellar” company

3. The best Tsinandali - “Wineman” company

4. The best white Qvevri wine - “Vita Vinea” company

5. The best white half-sugary - “Wine Iveria” company

6. The best rosy wine - “Tbilvino” company

7. The best Saperavi - “Kakhetian Traditional Winery” company

8. The Premium Saferavi - “Kakheti Company”

9. The best Mukuzani  - “Kindzmarauli” corporation

10. The best red half-sugary - “GWS Wismino” company

11. The best Usakhelauri - “Usakhelauri Vine-yards” company

12. The best Kindzmarauli - “Teliani Valley” company

13. The best red dry Qvevri wine - “Kortavebis Marani” company

14. The best Khvanchkara - “Telavi Wine Cellar” company

15. The best Chacha - “Riravo” company

Within the framework of the event, three persons were awarded with “Georgian Wine Order” for the special contribution in the development and popularization of Georgian viticulture and winemaking by the minister of Agriculture, Levan Davitashvi, the president of Georgian Sommelier Association, Shalva Khecuriani and famouse winemaker and specialist of alcohol beverage, Bondo Kalandadze. This year, the winners of  “Georgian Wine Order”  are:

• Davit Lortqifanidze (the director of Georgian National Museum) – for the special contribution in scientific substantiation of recognition Georgia, as the home to vine and wine and development of the field with archeological discoveries;

• Giorgi Barisashvili (winemaker, writer) – for learning, training and popularizing  traditional Georgian winemaking history;

• Giorgi Natenadze (researcher of vines of Meskheti, the director of “Vardziis Terasebi”- for special contribution in  initiating and executing reestablishment of terrace of vines of Meskheti.

Within the framework of the ceremony, the certificates were given to the graduated of the wine school and the honored students joined Georgian Sommelier Association as sommeliers and asistent-sommeliers.

The festive environment at the ceremony was made by Nani Bregvadze and Eka Mamaladze.
