At the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG) meeting held in Brussels, the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium, member countries of the organization positively evaluated Georgia's one-year chairmanship and the achieved results.

Since May 1, 2023, the chairmanship of the aforementioned organization was transferred from the United States of America to Georgia for a one-year term, in accordance with the principle of rotation. Throughout the chairmanship, the National Wine Agency assumed the role of the organization's primary coordinator, overseeing its activities. The organization's primary objective is to streamline wine trade, foster international wine commerce, and collectively address trade impediments.
"It is of utmost importance to us that the chairmanship of Georgia be positively evaluated. Various issues were identified during the meeting, leading to discussions and the formulation of collaborative measures aimed at enhancing wine trade between countries. These measures are not limited to member countries of the organization but also extend to other nations across the globe. Our deliberations encompassed strategies for removing trade barriers, which will facilitate the promotion of Georgian wine in the global market and the diversification of market opportunities," stated Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency.
The Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, as well as the Head of the Mission of Georgia to the European Union, His Excellency Vakhtang Makharoblishvili, graced the opening of the meeting with his presence. "We are pleased with the one-year chairmanship tenure of Georgia. The group's work has proven highly beneficial to all nine member countries of the WWTG. Throughout the past year, we have achieved notable advancements on various fronts, ultimately aimed at enhancing the trade of wine as a valuable agricultural commodity. Such endeavors will greatly contribute to the expansion of exports and wine trade, thereby benefiting our respective nations," stated Charles Jefferson, a delegate from the United States.
During the two-day work of the group, discussions were held on trade barriers, issues of international trade facilitation and cooperation with the World Trade Organization, packaging and labeling standards, as well as the resolutions of the International International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), EU regulations regarding the labeling of wine ingredients.
As of June 1 of this year, Australia assumes the chairmanship of WWTG.
